Blood & Vine Patchwork Jacket
made from a myriad of fabrics all sourced secondhand and/or vintage. cotton, linen, poly blend, canvas. most notably, the white linen came from antique napkins. the leafy prints helped cover yellowed stains from food long washed away. hand printed using foraged plants and fabric paint. quilting and patchwork done by me for once (ha), collaged together in layers on the sleeves and body. really proud of this technique—especially on the sleeves. it reminds me of the print that waves make on the beach, some patches folded in multiple times beneath newer layers. hand stitching done with embroidery floss. one (1) secondhand button sewn at the bottom hem because i kept trying to pull the sides together when i tried it on and decided maybe it was better off…use it as you please. oh! and pockets.
shoulders across 16”
sleeve length 22”
sleeve opening 13”
chest 54”
hip/waist open 45”
hip/waist buttoned 38”
collar to hem length 24”
for this collection i’m opening sliding scale, but also most importantly the chance to barter (or a blend of both). i’m interested in art you make, songs you wrote, cultural/ethnic recipes, penpal letters, poems and prose, used books you love, oral storytelling (family legends!!), all ideas are welcome. labor hours on this are uncounted but it took me exactly a month to finish.
NOTE: this piece was sold at $300 at buyer’s choice (sliding scale).
this collection was a meditation on transformation, death, life and rebirth. when i started it i was also beginning a phase of great personal grief, shedding a lot of versions and parts of myself i’d collected over the years that no longer served me. i remembered that sometimes bloodshed is required for growth. sometimes we are meant to cut up bits of fabric woven from the past and try our hardest to make new life from it. despite the grief, pain and trauma of living i am still so grateful to be born over and over again through a mess of blood and vine.
